Illustrations and icons can improve user comprehension and, when appropriate, inject friendliness and humanity. I created these icons so that they can be paired with content to aid in the user’s comprehension of that content or to emphasise a certain tone in the design. One of the main focuses for this project was consistency, as this builds trust with Virgin Care's users.
Role: Art Direction /  Icon designer
As often it happens everything starts with a pen an paper. I began by roughly sketching out a range of icon options. Those that didn’t work, or seemed inappropriate to the target audience and brand were dismissed. Once I'd ruthlessly dismissed the concepts that didn’t work, the best option(s) were taken further to higher fidelity sketches and vectors which you can see below.
Taking it further
After a few sessions of visual treatments, I aligned the visuals to be better suited for the Virgin Care brand. This was translated then into an Icon Brand guideline with precise instructions on how to create new visuals in the future and keep the brand consistency mentioned at the start.
